Jakarta, December 4, 2025 – SUN, a complementary food brand from PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk (ICBP), collaborated with community mothers from the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) to organize the SUN Lahap Makan Creative Contest. In addition to enhancing the creativity of complementary feeding (MPASI) menus based on local food diversity, this activity is also part of a joint effort to strengthen nutrition education through the implementation of the 3 SUN-style Lahap Makan Methods. The SUN Lahap Makan Creative Contest was participated by PKK cadres from six provinces across Indonesia, including Lampung, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, East Java, and South Sulawesi.
Throughout 2025, SUN has actively promoted the Gerakan Lahap Makan (GLM) or the hearty eating campaign, particularly during the critical stage when children begin complementary feeding. The campaign introduces the 3 SUN Lahap Makan Methods, namely (1) Feeding children when they are hungry and not sleepy, (2) Providing variations in taste and texture according to age, and (3) Applying appropriate feeding techniques. Through this initiative, SUN continues to encourage mothers to create more diverse complementary feeding menus to reduce the risk of the Gerakan Tutup Mulut (GTM) among children.
Robert Arifin, Head of Nutrition and Special Foods Division, PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk., said, "Gerakan Tutup Mulut remains a major challenge for mothers when feeding their children complementary foods. Through the 3 SUN Lahap Makan Methods, SUN provides practical solutions that enable mothers to serve nutritious meals while creating positive eating experiences for their children. Together with PKK cadre mothers, we are expanding this educational effort through the SUN Lahap Makan Creative Contest to strengthen their role as companions to mothers. We remain committed to supporting mothers in preparing balanced and nutritious complementary food creations tailored to Indonesian children's tastes."
Creative MPASI Menus for Children to Eat More Heartily
The SUN Lahap Makan Creative Contest was evaluated by a panel of judges including a nutrition expert, Dr. Rita Ramayulis, DCN, M.Kes., who assessed the creativity of the menu, nutritional quality, texture, appearance, and taste. "MPASI menus don't have to be complicated. The most important aspect is providing balanced nutrition with textures appropriate for the child’s age, using locally available ingredients that are easy to obtain and appealing to children," she said.
Meeting nutritional needs is often a challenge for parents. Rita added that babies' small meal portions mean that each spoonful must be nutrient-dense, especially iron, which is crucial for brain development at this stage. "Starting at 6 months of age, a baby's iron needs surge to around 11 mg per day, while breast milk provides only about three percent of that amount. The remaining 97% must be provided by complementary foods. This gap requires parents to be more selective in choosing nutrient-dense ingredients. For example, today’s main ingredients are mackerel and catfish, which are nutrient-rich, affordable, and easily accessible, combined with iron-fortified complementary foods,” she explained.
Public figure and mother, Alyssa Soebandono, also shared her experience introducing complementary foods to children. "Every child is different, and boredom with food can easily occur. Parents need to be creative in varying complementary foods each day so children remain enthusiastic about eating. I often combine ingredients available at home with SUN, which is easy to prepare and nutritionally complete, especially high in iron, which is important for children’s growth and development. This way, I feel more at ease even though their portions are still small. When both are combined, the result is more nutrient-dense, still delicious, and usually more easily accepted by children," explained Alyssa Soebandono.
Final Round Prepares Cadres to Become Lahap Makan Ambassadors
The SUN Lahap Makan Creative Contest has been running since the middle of this year, with the final round taking place today at Modena Culinaria Jakarta. The final round was attended by six selected finalist teams from a total of 114 participating groups (342 cadres). In this final stage, participants were challenged to prepare and serve complementary foods within one hour for three age categories (6 months, 9 months, and 12 months and older), with fish as the mystery ingredient to support the government's efforts to improve nutrition.
One of the finalists, Lia Yuliasri David from West Java Province, expressed her enthusiasm. “This event is extraordinary. As a cadre, I feel motivated to contribute by encouraging mothers with young children to develop complementary feeding recipes using SUN combined with ingredients that are easily available at home. Our hope is that children in our communities can achieve better nutrition,” she said.
The finalists of this competition were also appointed as SUN Lahap Makan Ambassadors, who will continue promoting education on how to encourage children to eat more enthusiastically while meeting their nutritional needs for optimal growth. These cadres will be equipped with the Lahap Makan Ambassador education toolkit, enabling them to inspire mothers with complementary feeding ideas that are practical, affordable, and aligned with the 3 SUN Lahap Makan Methods.
For more than 30 years, SUN has been trusted by mothers in Indonesia to accompany their little ones in their first steps of learning to eat. This trust encourages us to continue innovating to provide practical, safe, and nutritious complementary foods. We also believe that together with volunteer mothers, we can build broader collaborations to continue educating parents, so that Indonesian children can grow up healthy and smart, and one day become a generation of leaders ready to realize Indonesia Emas," emphasized Robert Arifin.
SUN continues to innovate by offering practical, safe, and nutritious baby food products enriched with Esenutrim, which contains high levels of protein, iron, and omega-3 & 6 to help babies eat more heartily and support optimal growth and development. All SUN products are certified by BPOM and comply with the Codex Alimentarius Commission standards as an international reference for food safety. Free from preservatives and added flavorings, SUN provides peace of mind for mothers in delivering the best MPASI for their children.
